Role Overview

The Director, Finance and Corporate Accounting will be responsible for the controllership function of Fidelity Canada which includes the combined entity and the individual business channels including the distribution, investment management and custody & clearing business. The function works closely with the various teams to provide corporate accounting and controllership support, product and client billing and corporate treasury oversight.

The individual will manage a team at Fidelity Canada’s head office in Toronto. As well, the individual will manage an offshoring team from Fidelity India which is dedicated to support Fidelity Canada’s accounting and controllership function.

This position will report to and work closely with the Vice President of Corporate Finance and be a member of the Fidelity Canada Finance management team. The Fidelity Canada Finance & Corporate Services team operates in a hybrid working environment.

What You Will Do
  • Manage the Controllership function in Canada (which includes 10 individuals), work closely with the offshoring team within Fidelity India and partner with Fidelity International colleagues
  • Coordinate and assist with the delivery of accounting services to the Canadian businesses, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and analysis of technical accounting issues and considerations.
  • Work with the various finance functions and controllership to lead an effort to develop new accounting processes and controls to support the growth and changes in the businesses. Activities include establishing accounting practices for new legal entities, enhancing accounting processes over key financial statement areas (e.g. revenue, compensation, intercompany allocations), and developing improved reporting framework.
  • Assist in the coordination of the external audits for all entities, including preparation of financial statements, review with management, and coordination with the external auditors.
  • Oversight of the product and client billing function which is the main driver of Fidelity Canada's revenues. This includes setting up new product/client parameters, review of recurring billing cycles and working with the technology team on system enhancement requests
  • Manage the intercompany reporting function which includes compiling charges for services from other Fidelity companies, maintaining of service agreements and preparing forecasts/budgets for planning purposes
  • Lead the Corporate Treasury function which includes administrating day to day transactions, cash flow and working capital forecasting and facilitating the Asset Liability Committee for Fidelity Canada
What We're Looking For
  • Completion of a University degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • CPA/CA Designation is required
  • Professional experience in a Big 4 firm is preferred with subsequent experience in financial services industry
  • Minimum of 7 years working experience within financial services industry
  • Prior people management skills is required
  • Prior experience in an accounting or controllership function which includes month end and year-end audit activities
  • Deep understanding of global asset and wealth management in Canada and fundamentals in corporate treasury activities
